Dear Students and Parents,
As we are all looking forward to the start of the new school year and busily making plans so that we are good to go, we'd like you to review The Attendance and the Dress Code and Gang Attire sections of the Student Planner before your back-to-school shopping begins.
Thank you!
The Attendance Policy
As we begin each semester, please review the Attendance Policy and take note of the following attendance information:
• Though we begin each year with a clean attendance slate, unexcused absences are cumulative for the school year.
• It is the parent/student responsibility to make sure the office has the correct address and phone contact. Call 429-3909 ext. 136 for corrections.
• Every three unexcused absences results in a Truancy Letter and a four-hour Saturday School to be served on the first Saturday School (see below) following notification by mail. Students need to check the list posted outside the attendance office to double check their obligation in this area. We do send out Saturday School notification forms, but this is only done as a courtesy.
• Parents have three days to clear an absence with an acceptable excuse. After that, it remains unexcused.
• Use ISIS and the School Messenger to check attendance. This will allow an opportunity to correct an error in a timely fashion.
• 9 unexcused period absences may require a student to attend an alternative educational setting (i.e. Ark Independent Studies or Costanoa High School).
Saturday School
• Saturday School is held every Saturday from 8:30am until 12:30pm unless announced otherwise. Latecomers will not be admitted after 8:45:00am. Students will be dismissed four hours from the time they sign in.
• No electronic devices are allowed. They will be confiscated.
• Talking or playing games is not allowed. Violators will be sent home.
• Bring homework or school-appropriate reading material.
• If you cannot attend Saturday School, notify Mr. Mehuron or the Attendance Office to be reassigned.
• If you do not attend Saturday School, four hours will be added as a penalty for each session not attended.
• Last minute discrepancies between student accounts and Attendance Office records will result in Saturday School being reassigned to the next session to reconcile the situation.
• No hats or hoods in Saturday School.
• No sleeping in Saturday School.
• No food or drink in Saturday School.
• Breaks are held from 10:00am until 10:10am sharp and from 11:30am until 11:40 sharp.
• To be tardy on a break is unacceptable. Those who are tardy will be sent home with no penalty; however, credit will not be given for the time put in to that point.
