SCHOOL-WIDE FUNDRAISER
We are selling tickets to win a 2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid! Only $5. All groups are invited to participate.  Groups participating:  Band, Grad Night, Baseball, Soccer, Wrestling, Library, Soquel Sports Foundation, Volleyball...there is still time to get tickets!!  If you don't want to sell but want to support those that are selling  call your favorite person, group, or organization at SHS and buy one.  You are always welcome to call Kathy Grant 475-8884.

SOQUEL SPORTS FOUNDATION NEWS      
MONTE FIREWORK TICKETS FOR SALE - See your sports team or call Kathy Grant 475-8884 (SSF can accept cash, checks, or credit cards [for credit cards:  3% fee applies - which is 45 cents a ticket]).  $15 each. Event is Oct. 11.
 
MONTE FIREWORK BOOTH DONATIONS NEEDED!  We are looking for donations for our food booth this Saturday. We have purchased most of what we need - so cash donations would be greatly appreciated - money can be donated next week.  Or, if you plan on going - remember to stop by and purchase food from us!   Remember, we all win when we have new restrooms and snack-bar - so come help us raise the money - we need your help!   We will be selling polish dogs/hot dogs, chips, and drinks.  All money will be directed to new restrooms snack bar, and entrance.  Kathy 439-7774 day#, Dena 234-6196.
 
FOOTBALL SOUVENIR PROGRAM.  Come to the JV/VAR game this Friday night and a special treat awaits the person the buys a program with special signature inside the program.   Programs are beautiful and only cost $3.  These are nice - buy one to use and one for memories!  Thanks to Lynne Owen and Niche Photography and Janis Armacost for a beautiful job!  Note:  Inside the program is also a link to find other pictures (a few 100) taken at the Wastsonville game which are available to purchase online.

BINGO -  Every Tuesday,  at the SC Elks Lodge, 150 Jewell Street, Santa Cruz.  Doors open at 5 p.m.; warm ups at 6:15 p.m.; and games at 6:30 p.m. EVERYONE is encouraged to come play bingo and help us raise money.  The buy-in is $15 and you will have fun!  Bring dinner money as there is a fully-catered menu by 5-Star Catering with reasonable pricing!    So join us and bring a friend!

RETAKE/MAKE-UP PICTURES:  DO NOT MISS...last chance!  Allstudents who have not yet had their photo taken by Larry's Photographyin the MPR must show up on Thursday, October 2 during brunch or lunchso that they can end up with an I.D. card (seniors included) and thenon-seniors get their yearbook picture.

HOMECOMING NEEDS CONVERTIBLES ASAP

For the Homecoming Parade and half time game, we are in need of fourconvertibles and drivers to transport the Homecoming Court. If you have any convertibles, the Parade is on October 3. Please be atSoquel Village by 2:30 p.m. The Half Time Show is during the VarsityFootball game in the evening.

COLLEGE FINANCE WORKSHOP

College financial planner Steve Shapiro will offer a workshop onOct. 1, 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the library. This presentation will cover:


1. How the financial aid system works (need-based and merit-based)

2. Who receives financial aid and how to improve your odds

3. Planning steps for lower income families 

4. Planning steps for higher income families


Steve Shapiro is a CPA, CFP and Certified College Planning Specialist.

DRAMA AUDITIONS

The Knights of the Square Stage will be hosting open auditions on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 25 & 26,  in the MU from 3-5 p.m.for the murder a la carte mystery play, "A Fatal Combination." Thiswill be a cold reading and all potential actors and actresses andtechnicians can see Mrs. Kline in Room 602 if you have any questions.

SAT QUESTION OF THE DAY:  Each day you need to plan on visiting the College Board website to get the QUESTION OF THE DAY.  It's fun!  JUST DO IT! apps.collegeboard.com/qotd/question.do  

DRESS CODE UPDATE

For student security, NFL, NBA, and major league baseball team hats and jerseys are NOT PERMITTED at school.  If a student is found wearing such items, the item will be confiscated by security or the administratio and will only be released to a parent of the student.

TEST OPPORTUNITIES

The PSAT exam for juniors and interested sophomores will be given October 18.  Registration fees of $25 can be made beginning at Back To School Night (Weds., 9/17).  Thereafter, Students may register for the PSAT in the Finance Office. There are a limited number of PSAT tests available.  Registration fees increase to $30 starting Oct. 1.

SAT SEMINAR -- Four Saturdays:  8 am-4 pm; Two Tuesdays: 5-8:30 pm. Held at Scotts Valley High School.  For details call 335-7600.

DRIVER EDUCATION

A class at Soquel High will begin on Sept. 29 and last until Oct. 17. The class will meet in room 701, Monday through Friday from 3-5 p.m. Students must be at least 15 1/2 to register. If interested, sign up in the front office.

WATER POLO RECRUITMENT

The Soquel Water Polo Junior Varsity needs more players. Practices are 3-5 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Call Marcelo, Varsity coach, 359-6444.

SENIORS

Senior Conferences begin Sept. 15. Please come by the Counseling Office and schedule an appointment. All seniors MUST have a conference!

SENIOR PARENTS

Please come to the next Grad Night meeting where we will determine where the event will be held for our seniors.  We are meeting before Back to School night at 4:30 on Wed., Sept. 17, in the library.  We hope to see you there!

Welcome to the 2008-09 school year!

Please keep safety in mind as you travel to and from campus.  Drivers, please keep an eye out for pedestrians, bicyclists and skateboarders.  Riders, please wear helmets, walk in crosswalks, and obey all traffic regulations--we don't want a repeat of last year when we had four collisions between riders and cars in the first month of school!

*Parking Lot Fundraiser* - Sunday, Sept 7 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Former Tiny's Restaurant (by OSH).  The Soquel High Sports Foundation has been given the access to sell all of the restaurants equipment etc.  Everything must go!  If you know a business that you could use some supplies - please forward them the details.  Questions, call Kathy 439-7774 day# or 475-8884 eve#.
