CHOIR PERFORMANCES

*The Soquel High Concert Choir will perform with the Cabrillo Women’s Choir on Dec. 2nd at 3:00 Cabrillo Theater.

*The Soquel Choir’s Winter Concert is Dec. 12th at 7:30pm in the MPR.

DUI PREVENTION PROJECT

The Santa Cruz County Office of Education in partnership with law enforcement, county drug and alcohol, the judicial system, and community partners will present a curriculum with various workshops designed to inform parents and youth about drugs and alcohol on the body and the legal ramifications for receiving a DUI citation. The first series is scheduled from 5:15pm – 8:30pm Wednesday, December 5th and again on Wednesday, December 19th.  It will be held at the Santa Cruz County Office of Education in Capitola. Youth attendees will receive community service hours.  Please see our web site to get the registration form.

GRAD NIGHT

Mark your calendars now for Grad Night’s Wine Tasting and Silent Auction Extravaganza at Michael's on Main.  Join us February 3rd from 2 pm. to 6 pm. for our main Grad Night 2008 fundraising event.  Tickets sales will be announced when available.

STUDENTS

AP STUDENTS - We are now taking deposits for the AP exams.  The deposit is a minimum of $15 per exam.  All deposits are due to the Finance Office by Friday, December 7, 2007.  Your AP teacher should have given you your payment form.  Final payments for the exams will be due by Friday, March 14, 2008.  Each exam costs $84 so please start planning your payment schedule.

WINTER DANCE - Friday, December 7th. 

To be admitted, students must fulfill the following requirements:  All library and textbook fees must be paid, all Saturday School time must be completed, no unexcused absences for the entire week of Dec. 3rd., and no suspensions for the year. Have fun kids!

HELP WANTED

We’re still looking for a few food donations for the Staff Appreciation lunch on Tuesday, Dec. 4th. We especially need more cold cuts, cheeses and breads, but any and all donations will be appreciated.  The food may be dropped off that day before 11:30. FUNDRAISERS

It’s not too late to donate to your favorite academic, art, or athletic program, or to a teacher, coach, staff member, or club. Please make your checks out to Soquel High Fund, and mail them to P.O. Box 1700 Soquel, CA  95073, or deliver them to the SHF box in the front office.  If you have a preference, remember to write down where you want your donation to go.  We greatly appreciate your help!
COAT DRIVE FOR KIDS – It’s getting chilly and kids need coats!
Soquel High NHS has teamed up with Classic Cleaners in its annual coat drive for kids.  Simply drop any gently used jackets or coats by Mr. Siddens room (206) and NHS (National Honor Society) will take them to Classic Cleaners to be cleaned and distributed to children in need.  Any questions, please contact Hannah Passafuime 818-6520 or Marina Rosenthal 239-6916.

SPORTS

Congratulations to the following girls water polo players for being selected to the All-CCS team:  Carey Faber-1st team, Rachel Henry- honorable mention.  Carey Faber was also selected to play for the Division II team in the CCS all-star game at noon on Sat. 12/1 at Sacred Heart Prep in Menlo Park.  Well done ladies!
Football recap:  Our varsity team lost in a defensive battle to Pacific Grove 21-7 in the 1st round of the CCS play-offs.  Our JV team tied with SLV for the league title, and our Frosh team ended their season in a 3-way tie for first place with SLV and Scotts Valley.

FROM THE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT

LAST DAY TO DROP COURSES – Friday, Nov. 30, is the last day to drop a course without an automatic “withdraw failure” being posted on the transcript for that class.
ALL SENIORS – All seniors should have had a graduation contracted signed by now. If you were somehow missed, see your counselor immediately.
ACT/SAT TESTS
Registration deadline for Feb. 9 ACT is Jan. 4, for April 12 is Mar. 7, and for June 14 is May 9.
Registration deadline for Jan. 26 SAT is Dec. 26, for March 1 is Jan. 29, for May 3 is April 1, and for June 7 is May 6.
Interested in being a 5th grade science camp counselor? Harbor High/ROP is offering an outdoor school counselor course from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sat., Dec. 1. The course is worth one high school elective credit, and being a camp counselor earns up to three credits. The ROP program is offering new courses next semester – culinary arts, interior design and bike shop. The culinary arts class will be offered from 330-6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at a site yet to be determined. The interior design course will be offered from 6-8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at Santa Cruz High School. The bike shop class will be from 1-3 p.m. at Harbor High.
