BAND CONCERT

The Winter Band Concert will be held on Thursday December 20th at 7:00pm in the MU Room. There will be great performances by the A and B Jazz Bands, the Concert Band, and wonderful individual and small group performances.  Delicious desserts will also be served.

 

HOLIDAY GIFT FAIR

Come check out a fabulous assortment of student-made gifts on Dec. 20th from 7:30am – 7:30pm in the Ag Dept.

FROM THE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT

PSAT SCORES – PSAT scores are now available in the counseling office. Sophomores and juniors who took the test this year should consult their counselor during lunch or brunch to see how they did.

 

COLLEGE FINANCIAL AIDE – Soquel High parents are invited to a workshop on how to fill out the FAFSA federal financial aide application for college. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wed., Jan. 16, in the Santa Cruz High School auditorium. At the end of the workshop, you will be prepared to complete the FAFSA application! However, to prepare for applying online, both the parent and the student will need to register for a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov. Also, do bring to the workshop: 1. Your FAFSA on the web worksheet, available at www.fafsa.ed.gov; 2. Parent's estimated income tax for 2007; 3. Student's estimated income tax for 2007, if applicable; and, 4. a calculator.

 

WILDERNESS PROGRAM – The Soquel High Wilderness Program is seeking funding for a winter weekend in the snow for a dozen low-income students who want to learn how to ski or snowboard. Please contact Teresa Robinson, school counselor, 429-3914, if you are able to donate.

 

BIKE REPAIR TALK – The instructor for the new ROP bike repair class at Harbor High will meet with students at lunch on Monday, Dec. 17 in Room 503, the metal shop classroom. Kirk Bernhardt will be demonstrating some of the skills students in the new course will be learning.

 

COLLEGE TESTING – The registration deadline for Feb. 9 ACT is Jan. 4, for April 12 is Mar. 7, and for June 14 is May 9.

 

The registration deadline for Jan. 26 SAT is Dec. 26, for March 1 is Jan. 29, for May 3 is April 1, and for June 7 is May 6.

Harvard University has a low-income initiative program, in which students from families that earn $60,000 or less annually, do not need to pay tuition if they are accepted into the prestigious university. To find out more about Harvard offering free tuition for families making less than $60,000 a year visit Harvard's financial aid website at: http://adm-is. fas.harvard. edu/FAO/index. htm or call the school's financial aid office at (617) 495-1581.  They are also dropping their fees for middle income families to 10% of total family income.
