DRUG ABUSE RECOGNITION TRAINING FOR PARENTS
Date: February 21, 2008 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm

Officer Jackie Long, Drug Abuse Recognition trainer and expert from the Department of Justice will share current trends in drug abuse, warning signs, and how to recognize a person under the influence.

GRAD NIGHT WINE TASTING AND SILENT AUCTION February 23rd from 2-6pm at Michael’s on Main. Tickets are on sale for $25 and will be available at the door the day of the event or by contacting Vicki Rubalcaba at 475-4897. All money raised will go directly to the senior grad night festivities in June.

WINTER FORMAL RULES
Please understand that all dance rules will be enforced, and we will be using breathalyzers as you enter and during the dance. Bing your student ID, and remember seniors, the Senior Contract states clearly that if you violate school rules or are under the influence at a school event, you WILL NOT be able to participate in school activities, including graduation ceremonies.
SPIRIT WEEK is next week. It's class competition so encourage your class to dress up. Monday: SENIORS wear black and white, TUESDAY: Juniors wear orange, WED.: Sophomores wear green, THURSDAY: Freshmen wear yellow, FRIDAY: Blue & Gold Day....go all out and win prizes.

FROM THE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT
Tuesday, Feb. 12, is the last day for students to add a new course to their schedule.
SCHEDULE CHANGES
If you would like to see your counselor regarding a schedule change, we will make appointments for seniors and juniors on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We will make appointments for sophomores and freshmen beginning on Friday. You must attend all assigned classes unless and until they have been changed. If you do not attend your classes because you’re anticipating a schedule change, those absences will be counted as cuts and may lead to a Saturday School assignment.
10TH GRADERS
Next week, you will take the High School Exit Exam. On Tuesday, February 5, you will take the English portion during periods A2 and A3 of a regular block day. Then you will attend A4 as normal or, since the Exam is not timed, so you may continue working on the Exam. On Wednesday, February 6, you will take the Math portion, during B5, B6, and B7 of a minimum B day. You may continue working after school, if you wish. You will be assigned to a particular testing location, so check the flyers posted in the Main Office and around the school. Good luck on the Exam!
FIRST RESPONDER COURSE (Advanced First Aid and CPR)
Classes will be held from 6-10pm on Mondays beginning April 7th, and Thursdays beginning April 24th at Emergency Training Services Inc. in Santa Cruz. COLLEGE FINANCIAL AIDE
Soquel High parents have been invited to workshops on how to fill out the FAFSA federal financial aide application for college.
The meetings will be at Cabrillo College – at three different times and locations: a. from 5-8 p.m. Wed., Feb. 6, at the Cabrillo Scotts Valley Center, 104 Whispering Pines Drive, Scotts Valley; b. from 5-8 p.m. Thurs., Feb. 7., at the Cabrillo Watsonville Center, Student Resource Center, 318 Union St., Watsonville; and c. from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at Cabrillo’s Aptos Campus, Student Activities Center Room 201, 6500 Soquel Drive, Aptos.
To prepare for applying online, both the parent and the student will need to register for a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov. Also, do bring to the workshops: 1. Your FAFSA on the web worksheet, available at www.fafsa.ed.gov; 2. Student’s Social Security Card and Driver’s License or state ID; 3. Student’s and parent’s 2007 Federal Tax Returns and W2s; 4. Student’s and parent’s 2007 bank and investment statements; 5. Any records of untaxed income; 6. Student’s alien registration (if not a citizen); and 7. a calculator.
