PARENT MEETINGS

Soquel Sports Foundation – Mon., Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. Location TBA. Call 439-2241/475-8884 for location.

Grad Night – Every Wednesday at 6:30 in the library through Feb. 20. All parents are encouraged to come and participate.

Site Council – Tues., Feb. 19 at 3:15. Check the office for the location.

Humanities Academy – Tues., Feb. 26th in room 222.  Frosh-4:30, Soph-5:15.

 

OPEN HOUSE

The annual Soquel High Open House will be on Tuesday, Feb. 12. All parents are welcome. 

6:00--6:45 p.m.    General Session in MPR

6:45--8:30 p.m.    Department displays in locations throughout campus

Look for the Grad Night Committee table. They will be selling: Grad Night Tickets, See’s candy (great for your Valentines), and Tickets for the Feb. 23 Wine Tasting & Auction.

 

DRUG ABUSE RECOGNITION TRAINING FOR PARENTS

Date: February 21, 2008 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. 

Location: Tech Center at the Santa Cruz County Office of Education

809 H Bay Ave. Capitola, CA  95010 (on the side of Nob Hill)

Officer Jackie Long, Drug Abuse Recognition trainer and expert from the Department of Justice will share current trends in drug abuse, warning signs, and how to recognize a person under the influence.

GRAD NIGHT WINE TASTING AND SILENT AUCTION                                                                      

February February 23 from 2-6 p.m. at Michael’s on Main. Tickets are on sale for $25 and will be available at the door the day of the event, at Open House, or by contacting Vicki Rubalcaba at 475-4897. All money raised goes directly to the senior grad night festivities in June.

The 4th Annual Soquel High Fund Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, May 9 at DeLaveaga Golf Course. Grad Nite tickets will be on sale in the quad on Friday Feb 8 from 12:30 to 1 p.m. for $100.00. Look for the balloons.

 

YEARBOOKS 

Yearbooks are on sale now in the Finance Office for $85. Please make checks out to Soquel High Yearbook. The price will go up in April.

 

SATURDAY SCHOOL

The next Saturday School will be held on February 15. There will be no Saturday School on February 9.

BOYS GOLF

Interested in joining the Golf Team? Practices are M-Th, 3 p.m. at Delaveaga Golf Course. League play begins February 28. Call Coach Lori Shaw at 345-5569 for more information. You must have your paperwork turned in to the Athletic Director's Office in order to play.

FROM THE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT

Veteran counselor Karen Gilchrist will be out for the rest of the year. Students with last names beginning in A to Ch should see Gail Atlansky instead. Students with last names beginning in Ci to G should see Teresa Robinson instead.

 

SCHEDULE CHANGES

Tuesday, Feb. 12, is the last day for students to add a new course to their schedule.  Please set up your appointment now. 

 

COLLEGE BOUND STUDENTS

MID YEAR COLLEGE REPORTS – Seniors! Be sure and ask your counselor for a mid-year college report if the private college to which you are applying requires one. These reports include your first semester grades and generally are due now.

 

SAN JOSE STATE -- San Jose State has revised its earlier dates for registration for incoming freshman. Current seniors must apply by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15. Apply at www.CSUMentor.edu. All final transcripts, test scores and other supporting documents must be postmarked by Tuesday, July 15.

 

COLLEGE FINANCIAL AIDE – There will be one more workshop on college financial aide for Soquel High seniors and their parents. Cabrillo College will help parents fill out the FAFSA form from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at Cabrillo’s Aptos Campus, Student Activities Center Room 201.

This application – along with the Cal Grant GPA verification form – is due March 2nd, so don’t delay!

To prepare for applying online, both the parent and the student will need to register for a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov. Also, do bring to the workshops: 1. Your FAFSA on the web worksheet, available at www.fafsa.ed.gov; 2. Student’s Social Security Card and Driver’s License or state ID; 3. Student’s and parent’s 2007 Federal Tax Returns and W2s; 4. Student’s and parent’s 2007 bank and investment statements; 5. Any records of untaxed income; 6. Student’s alien registration (if not a citizen); and 7. a calculator.

 

A FREE two-week engineering summer institute will be held June 15-27 at San Francisco State University. The program, sponsored by the California Department of Transportation and the SFSU MESA program, will cover “What is Engineering?” and “How to Become and Engineer.” The institute is for juniors and seniors interested in the engineering and technology fields.
