CONGRATULATIONS!

The All Northern California Honor Band recently held auditions and two members of the Soquel Band, Nick Bianchini (trumpet) and Gavin Betterley (French horn), not only made the cut (again) but both placed first chair in their sections AND both received top scholarships to summer music camps. Congratulations to two very talented musicians!

The Soquel High Mock Trial team placed 2nd in the Santa Cruz County Mock Trial competition! A special congrats to Hanna Bliden, Marina Rosenthal, Rachel Siddens, Sydney Bossard, and Lindsey Hutchison who all received special recognition. Santa Cruz High placed 1st and will be representing the Santa Cruz County in the Mock Trial finals. Good job Soquel mock trial!

CCS GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAY-OFFS
The Lady Knights soundly beat San Mateo 76-55 in the quarter finals of the CCS play-offs, led by a school record-breaking 49 point game from Hannah Passafuime. The girls then faced Sacred Heart Cathedral, the top-rated team in the country, in the CCS semi-finals and lost 74-48, finishing up their season. Congratulations to the entire team and coaches for a fabulous season!

GOLF TOURNAMENT SIGN-UPS
The Soquel High Fund Golf Tourney May 9 is being held to raise money for all groups, teams, teachers, and clubs at Soquel High. Please join us by signing up to play or to be a sponsor. STUDENTS

AUDITIONS FOR THE MUSICAL
Auditions for the spring musical (title to be determined very, very soon) will be on Wednesday, March 5 and Thursday, March 6 from 3-pm. Come prepared to sing a song on Wednesday in a closed audition, and to do a cold reading and learn some dance moves on Thursday. You must come both days. A piano will be available if you bring your own music and pianist. A CD player will also be available.

Questions? See Mrs. Kline in Room 602 or the MU. Sign up sheets will be posted on the stage door.  It's the perfect opportunity to take that singing out of the shower and let the world hear your voice!

JOB FAIR
Thursday, March 6th from 3-5pm at the SC Teen Center.  It’s free, so come visit the “one stop job shop” with all the local employers.

TRANSCRIPTS
March 7 is the deadline to clear incompletes/grade changes from January 2008. It also is the deadline to inform your counselor that you want to record any of your Cabrillo classes on your high school transcript.

AP EXAM FEE WAIVER APPLICATIONS are now available for students with financial need. See Ms. Whitmore in her office to pick one up.

DROPPING COURSES – Friday, March 14, is the last day to drop a course without having it appear on your transcript. Thereafter, a withdrawal or withdrawal failure will be issued for a dropped course.


COURSE SIGN-UPS
School counselors have begun visiting 10th graders during their English classes. Be sure and ask your child for the “Life After High School” booklet that he or she received. It includes good information on everything from college scholarships, to resume writing, the military, and trade schools. Ninth and 11th graders will receive course sign-up sheets the week of March 11.

PSAT – Some students have still not picked up their PSAT scores from last fall’s testing. The scores are available in the counseling office.

DATES FOR HUMANITIES ACADEMY TESTING and ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSE MEETINGS

The Honors American Lit writing assessment for current 10th graders will be from 3-5 p.m. Friday, May 2 in the library.
The AP US History writing assessment for current 10th graders will be from 3-5 p.m. Friday, May 9 in the library.
The AP English writing assessment for current 11th graders will be from 3-5 p.m. Friday, May 16 in the library.

A meeting on required summer work (Honors Lit and/or AP US History) for current 10th graders will be from 12:30-1 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, in Room 312.

The Humanities Academy orientation for incoming 9th graders will be from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, June 5 in the library.

SENIORS

The Cal Grant GPA verification form, to accompany the FAFSA federal financial aide form, is due this weekend, March 2nd ! This grant can provide thousands of dollars in cash to college entrants.

CABRILLO COLLEGE 

Seniors who want to go to Cabrillo next year should come into the counseling office to pick up their math and English assessment forms. Doing these tests on Saturday, April 19th, will ensure them entrance into “running start” early registration on May 16. A Cabrillo College representative will conduct an orientation session for seniors at lunch on Monday, April 28.

Santa Cruz Seaside Company Employee Scholarship      Deadline:  May 7, 2008

Eligibility: Employee must be: High School senior who plans to attend a university or college in the fall.  You must be a current SCSC Employee and employed by April 6, 2008.  Must work through Labor Day weekend or until college or university starts, if earlier.  Applications available in scholarship drawer. $500 scholarship

Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County            Deadline March 5, 2008
