CONGRATULATIONS!

WAY TO GO BOYS SOCCER!  The following players were named to the ALL SCCAL BOYS SOCCER team:
Forward of the Year-Luis Duran
1st Team All SCCAL - Luis Duran, Jason Olivo, Rodrigo Plaza, and Anthony Gooch
2nd Team All SCCAL - Jordan Austin, Hyan-Jae Lee, Nicholas True, and Shane Frazier

ALL-COUNTY BASKETBALL
Congratulations also goes out to Hannah Passafuime for being named the 2008 Sentinel All-County girls basketball Player of the Year, and to Daniel Cross and Felipe Mendez for being picked for the All-County boys basketball team.  It’s great recognition for these fabulous athletes!

ALL STATE CA BAND DIRECTORS ASSN
Another prestigious accomplishment was awarded to Soquel High band members, Gavin Betterley (french horn) and Nick Bianchini (trumpet).  Both auditioned, along with 1300 other students, to the ALL STATE CBDA (California Band Directors Association).  Gavin and Nick were the only two students from the Central Coast accepted.  Even more impressive, both musicians achieved placement in the Premier Wind Ensemble, Gavin at 4th chair and Nick at 2nd chair.  OUTSTANDING JOB GUYS!

CONGRATULATIONS TO the contestants, winners, and others for their sterling performance at MR. SHS last evening.  Cudos go out to VINNIE LOPEZ, KRIS KAUFELDT, ARTHUR O'REILLY, DAVID MELENDY, KEVIN ELVIS WULF, HARA KUMARAN, and all of the lovely escorts strutting their stuff on the runway.  ALSO--a special thank you to the hosts, ZENDREZ LLADO, CONNOR ALHART, and MALCAYNA CHARTER.  JUDGES, we are indebted to you....Ken Lawrence-Emanuel, Madeline Britton, Luke Dahlen, Alia Kiley, and Li'l Bernie Levi.  Oh yes - "and the envelope, please"...2ND RUNNER UP - a tie - KEVIN ELVIS WULF AND ARTHUR O'REILLY.  1ST RUNNER UP (should Mr. SHS be unable to perform his duties) DAVID MELENDY.  To our new MR. SHS for 2008....HARA KUMARAN!!! Thanks to all who came, who saw, who participated.

POPS CONCERT
Come listen to our wonderful jazz singers, concert choir, men and women’s chorus and the jazz band on Wed., March 19th in the MPR at 7:30. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children under 12; advanced reserve seating is $10.

STUDENTS
Grad-Nite tickets will be on sale TODAY, Friday, March 14th in the front quad starting at 12:30.  Cost is $100.  Please have the form filled out and signed by your parents.  You may pick-up the form in the front office.  The ticket price will go up to $110 on April 1st, so buy your tickets now.

Complete you graduation requirements and have a great time doing it!  Auditions for the 2008-2009 JAZZ SINGERS and CONCERT CHOIR are now happening.  SIGN UP IN THE MUSIC ROOM FOR AN AUDITION TIME!

If you don't have time to reply before the meeting, just write them down and bring them with you and we’ll post them with the rest for everyone to read.   At the meeting, we’ll come up with a vision that will help guide our future planning.


PLEASE HELP! VOLUNTEERS are needed to help with the snack bar for the Semi-Pro Football team that plays at Soquel High – the SOCA SHARKS.  Proceeds will go toward the Restrooms/Snack bar/Entrance.  The game is on March 22nd at 1pm.  Volunteers are needed between 11:30 - 3:30pm.  If you can help, please call Kathy at 475-8884.


SUPPORT YOUR FAVORITE TEACHER, CLUB OR SPORT

Do you want to make a donation to your student’s favorite teacher, team, or club and have a great time while doing it?  Sign up now for the Soquel High Fund’s Annual Golf Tournament on May 9th.  If you can’t play, but want to participate, sign up to sponsor the event.  Registration forms are posted on the school website under Parents, Soquel High Fund, and by clicking on the registration or sponsor forms at the bottom of the page.  Details about the tourney are on the registration form.

COURSE REQUESTS

All freshmen and juniors need to return their course request sheets to their English teacher no later than Monday, March 17.

 

AP STUDENTS 

TODAY, March 14 is the deadline for exam balances to be paid, so please get your money in to the Finance Office. 


DROPPING COURSES

TODAY, Friday, March 14, is the last day to drop a course without having it appear on your transcript. Thereafter, a withdrawal or withdrawal failure will be issued for a dropped course.

 

COLLEGE BOUND STUDENTS

SENIORS

Are you interested in becoming a teacher?  If so, Soquel High's Scholarship Committee wants to know.  Please see Mr. Emery or Ms. Miranda as soon as possible about your plans.


CABRILLO COLLEGE 

Seniors who want to go to Cabrillo next year should come into the counseling office to pick up their math and English assessment forms. Taking these tests on Saturday, April 19th, will ensure entrance into the “running start” early registration on May 16. A Cabrillo College representative will conduct an orientation session for seniors at lunch on Monday, April 28.


COLLEGE TESTING

SAT – Register by April 1 for the May 3rd test, and by May 6 for the June 7th test at www.CollegeBoard.com.

ACT – Register is closed for the April 12th test.  Register by May 9th for the June 14th test at www.ACT.org.

       

SCHOLARSHIP LISTINGS THIS WEEK

Big Stick Surfing Association                  Deadline:  April 8, 2008

Scholarships range from $50 to $500.  Local high school seniors planning on enrolling full time at an institution of higher learning or a certified trade school who have demonstrated scholastic ability, and a commitment to ocean sports, the ocean environment/ecology, good citizenship, and sportsmanship.  Recipients will be chosen by a panel of judges after consideration of academic record, personal references, and answers to the questions on the application which you will find in the scholarship drawer in the counseling office.

We are looking for host families to host over the Spring break from 3/20 to 3/31. Families are paid stipends to help with living expenses. Coming for the 2008-09 high school year and semester, these students are excited about the opportunity to live with & get to know an American family and attend high school in Santa Cruz. They're good students and speak English well. Karen’s interests include singing, flute, guitar, theatre & horseback riding. Anja, here for the semester, is a dancer, likes acrobatics, & theatre. Gabriel plays basketball, guitar & the violin. He likes photography. Marco plays volleyball, tennis & Bass guitar.
