Security arrangements at Soquel High School
Week of March 17, 2008
We are all saddened by the unfortunate events that occurred
last Friday involving a Soquel High student.
Although the incident took place after school hours, a few miles off
campus and those accused of committing the crime are non-students, the school
has chosen to take additional security precautions to contribute to a greater
sense of safety and well-being for all students.
District and site officials met the morning of Monday, March
17 with representatives from the Sheriff’s department. They
informed us that two patrol cars were
initially stationed at the school very early Monday morning, but were
called
away to an imminent emergency prior to the arrival of students.
However, cars did return prior to the morning break. The Sheriffs have
committed all
available resources to increase the law enforcement presence around
Soquel High
for the near future. This includes an
increased number of patrols through the area, visits by deputies before, during
and after the school day, and a greater allocation of the time from other
School Resource Officers.
In addition, the District has hired private security guards
who will patrol the campus all day each day for the rest of this week.
District and site administrators are taking time away from
other duties to increase their presence during peak times of student movement,
such as before school, during break and lunch, and after school. We are continuing to cooperate with law
enforcement officials as they investigate the incident. Teachers and other staff have been asked to
be extra vigilant and visible during passing periods and other times as their
schedule permits.
Please contact the school if you have any questions or
concerns.
