KNIGHT NOTES
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Ben Passafuime and Lauren Seynhaeve who have been selected by the local chapter of the American Legion to represent Soquel High by participating in Boys State and Girls State this year. There are only 1000 boys and 1000 girls selected from the entire state of California each year to participate in this week long summer camp designed to encourage responsible citizenship and to teach the students about local and state government.
Another congratulations goes out to Zack Wiget and Steffan Bertelson who beat all the adult players, including their dads, to win the longest drive and closest to the pin contests at the Soquel High Fund Golf Tournament.

Great job Soquel Baseball! They beat Thomas More 6-1 in the first round of the CCS play-offs. 7th seeded Soquel will face 2nd seeded Menlo in the quarter-finals on Friday, 5/16 (TONIGHT) at 7pm at Washington Park in Santa Clara. RIVER ARTS FESTIVAL
The Santa Cruz Education Foundation is hosting the River Arts Festival in San Lorenzo Park, May 17-18. This event celebrates and supports our schools by bringing together our arts community, families and visitors to Santa Cruz in a two-day festival. With 75 juried artists, art installations, musical performances, food and so much more, the River Arts Festival promises to be a memorable event. Admission is FREE!

BE A PART OF A COMMUNITY ART PROJECT...
Phase I of the 2008 Capitola Sea Wall Art Tile Project has been a huge success! Tile installation begins May 20th on the Esplanade near the Bandstand. There's still time to create your own tile for Phase II (deadline June 20th) at Petrogylph in Santa Cruz. HONORS LIT/AP US HISTORY INCOMING STUDENTS
A meeting on required summer work for Honors Lit and/or AP US History for current 10th graders will be from 12:30-1pm on Tuesday, June 3rd in room 312.

SPORTS PHYSICALS
Attention all SHS athletes planning to play in the 2008-2009 school year:
Sports Physicals are available for $20 on Tuesday, June 3 at 5:30pm at the Sports Medical Center at 610 Frederick St. in Santa Cruz. Please pick up and fill out the Athletic paperwork from Ron Myers before then, and bring it with you.

Senior Awards Ceremony - May 21st at 7pm in the MU room. Seniors will be notified if they will be receiving an award.
Prom – May 30th
Mandatory Graduation practice – 1pm on the field
Graduation – June 13th at noon in the stadium
PROM
The Prom is scheduled for Friday, 5/30. It’s going to be a fabulous evening, but in order to attend, students must first fulfill the following requirements: All athletic, library and textbook fees must be paid; all Saturday School time must be completed; NO unexcused absences for the entire week of May 26; NO suspensions for the year; ALL parking tickets must be paid; all detention time served; all graduation announcements, invitations, and other graduation equipment picked up; all requested ID cards must be paid for and picked up. Bids are in sale at the Attendance Office Window. Please check the list of ineligible students and clear your obligations before you wait in line.
Any senior who has been awarded a scholarship of any type and wants it to be acknowledged in the program at Senior Awards Night, should let Mrs.Weng in the counseling office know by TODAY, so that they can get posted.
GRAD NIGHT 2008
Purchase your tickets at lunch on Friday for $110 in the front quad. Look for the balloons. You may also purchase your tickets from Cheryl in the front office.
Calling all Seniors, be sure to bring a picture for the Grad Night Baby Picture Wall. Guess who is in the photo and win! Pictures will not be returned. Please put photos in the marked box in the office by June 6th! Thank you, Grad Night Committee!

Please place requests for final transcripts to be mailed to colleges as early as possible to assure prompt mailing.
Please check list of overdue textbooks posted on the door of the Textbook Room. Books must be returned or bills paid before yearbook distribution, prom, and graduation.

FROM THE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY ROP would like to offer an outdoor adventure careers course next year, provided enough students are interested. The course will offer five credits a semester and will be on the first and second Saturday of the month. It will include one weekend trip a semester. The focus will be on adventure, conservation and outdoor career research. For information, contact Ms. Robinson, in the Soquel High counseling office, 429 3914.
SUMMER SCHOOL – Students who want to make up a D or F in summer school this year should see their counselor ASAP for a summer school registration form. The signups are on a first-come, first-served basis, and there are a limited number of spots.
WANT TO START YOUR OWN BUSINESS? -- Learn what it takes in only six afternoon sessions at Cabrillo. You will meet with inspiring business mentors and earn high school credit. If you're interested in signing up for this course next fall, see your counselor for a registration form.
THE CABRILLO SUMMER SCHEDULE is now out and available on-line. Get a high school release form now, as classes fill up quickly. Sign-up forms for summer school are available, too.
