FAQ's ABOUT SCHEDULES
"Why didn't I get all the classes I wanted?"
Please read through the following explanation before seeing your counselor.
Math Classes
* Depending on the grades you received last year, you may not qualify for the next class in sequence
* There may have been more sign-ups than space available
* You may have signed up for numerous 'singleton' (singletons are classes that are limited in the number of sections offered) classes and were not able to take all of them
Science Classes
* Depending on the grades you received last year, you may not qualify for the next class in sequence
* You may have signed up for numerous 'singleton' classes and were not able to take all of them
* You may not have been in the appropriate math level for the science course you want
World Language Classes
* If you signed up for French I, we had more sign-ups than space available (1 section only)
* You may not have received the grades necessary to move on to the next level
* Some of our language classes are 'singletons' and may have conflicted with another class you want
P.E.
* All students need to pass P.E. 9; if you did not pass, we placed you back into the class
* Due to when various P.E. classes are offered, we may have changed your class due to your other sign-ups
* The class you sign-ed up for may be full
Various Courses
* As Soquel High School is a small school, we have limited sections to offer
* Due to the number of 'singletons' offered we cannot accommodate all requests that we receive, nor can we avoid conflicts among all of our 'singletons'
* If we could not accommodate all of your first choice requests, we tried to place you into your second choice requests
* In evaluating transcripts, we may have decided that there were graduation requirements that you needed to meet and therefore placed you into one of those courses
* Some classes have pre-requisites and you may not have met those conditions
* We do not schedule students for a 7 period day (there are some exceptions with performing arts, leadership and CAHSEE tutorials).
* If you took a course at SHS and failed, we may not be able to offer that course to you a second time (students who are in a course for the 1st time have priority)
* There are limited 1st period courses and not all students who requested a 1st period may be placed into one
* School is a student's number one priority; if there is a conflict with your work schedule, your job will have to make the adjustment, not your schedule
SCHOOL-WIDE FUNDRAISER (All groups invited to participate. Ticket Coordination with each group being organized by Kathy Grant - Each group wanting to participate will need to provide one contact to be that group's coordinator with Kathy.)
TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID CAR DRAWING!!! Toyota of Santa Cruz and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk are again hosting the 'DRIVE FOR SCHOOL' drawing. Grand prize winner will receive a 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID including tax and license. Many groups will sell tickets.
If you want to purchase tickets, they will be on sale at home football games after 9/24 and with each group that agrees to sell them. Check with your group. The tickets are $5 each. This fundraiser begins 9/24 and ends 10/19. The drawing held on 10/26.
